In April 2013, Julia and Duncombe Bear travelled to Madrid to visit another primary school and to learn Spanish.
"I really enjoyed being immersed in another culture while learning a language. I was able to take what I learnt in the lessons and speak with the local people. It was very interesting to see how an Infants school in another country operates. Like Duncombe, they attend school from the age of three. There were two classes each of 3, 4 and 5 year olds in a separate building from the main school. They begin learning English from the age of 3, which is taught by a different teacher. Some lessons were taught only in English at the school, including P.E. and science. The children and staff at the school were very friendly and welcoming and I hope that Duncombe can maintain a link with them! My favourite part of Madrid was trying all of the different tapas, including: croquettes, potato bravas and even alligator! I was really lucky to see many interesting sights in Madrid and even did a tour of Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, where Real Madrid play football. I had a brilliant time in Madrid and am very lucky to have been a part of Comenius!"
